French rider Richard Sainct waits by his KTM after he fell from his motorcycle and broke the engine in the 10th stage of the Paris-Dakar rally 10 January 2001 in Mauritania. Sainct was leading at the overall standing but might pulled out the race after this accident.

Italian moto driver Fabrizio Meoni (C), KTM, celebrates on the podium with team mates 21 January 2001 in Dakar (Senegal) after he won the 23rd Paris-Dakar rally. Around him stand Spanish Jordi Arcarons (2nd R), who placed second, Chilean Carlo de Gavardo (2nd L) who placed third, Spanish Isidre Estev-Pujol (L), who finishes fourth and South African Alfie Cox (R-with helmet in the hand), who finishes fifth.
